What is the Hereford Manor Lake Conservancy and Watershed Group?

Our group is a grassroots organization of concerned citizens who formed a (501C3) non-profit corporation to work with a coalition of state, federal and local legislators, Township officials and county conservationists along with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, owner of the property. The commission is facing the prospect of addressing a growing backlog of infrastructure renovation projects statewide with limited financial resources. Complex fiscal funding match requirements and the fact that the Fish and Boat Commission receives no General Fund tax dollars complicates the financial problem. Our group supports the efforts of the commission and is working hand-in-hand with them to launch a feasibility study to repair the dams and rehabilitate the area. We also support the Fish & Boat Commission’s inclusion in the Growing Greener II budget initiative.

What can concerned citizens  do to help?

Our strength is in our numbers - join our group today and then write your congressman and the Governor to let them know how you feel about Hereford Manor Lake! Many people are not aware of the danger of losing this delicate watershed ecosystem. If the dams are breached we lose the lakes, if we lose the lakes we lose the fish and waterfowl and the area becomes an ugly strip-mined scar. Those scenarios are not consistent with the Governor’s Growing Greener II conservation initiative, Beaver County conservation goals — or the desires of Hereford Manor Lake corporate and residential neighbors. Help keep Pennsylvanians fishing and boating on Hereford Manor Lake for years to come!
